International Officer Candidate Requirements

To be eligible for National Officer Candidacy, a student must:

  • Be an active member of his/her division
  • Have a scholastic average of 2.5 for the two previously completed semesters prior to the State Career Development Conference (A = 4.0)
  • Must be holding or have held an elected State Association or Chapter office in his/her division
  • Must pass the written Parliamentary Procedure and DECA Information Test at the International Career Development Conference

Any DECA member who desires to run for International Office should consult with his/her Chapter Advisor and Mr. Don Varanauski. Only Mr. Varanauski has the authority to initiate the nominating procedure.

Any DECA member who is interested in being considered for an International Office should direct a letter by January 15 to Mr. Don Varanauski stating his/her intentions and requesting the application form. This form then along with (1) transcript, (2) glossy black and white photograph, (3) letters of recommendation and (4) a one-page resume needs to be submitted to Mr. Don Varanauski when requested. This information should be contained in a standard term paper binder or equivalent and will not be returned.

The Illinois Association of DECA will support one (1) candidate (either President or Central Region Vice President) for international office. This candidate should have an identifiable marketing/management/entrepreneurship sequence of courses on his/her transcript. In the event that there are two (2) or more candidate applicants, a screening committee will make the final decision no later than the Friday evening of the State Career Development Conference. Criteria will include, but not be limited to the candidate’s self-concept, self-image and ability to communicate.
